about

Belgian Band The Me in You should have celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2020. But since they seem to have plum forgotten it, we're taking a look back for them instead. 'Forgotten Clothes', the début for The Me in You, was released in 2012 and really resonated with the radio and the written press. Singles 'Girl in Armour' and 'Plastik' were radio hits on national radiostations.

The band performed at the top venues and festivals in the Netherlands and Belgium. On their untitled second album and especially on 'The Music of Stuart Conroy', released in 2018, The Me in You went in a different direction, focusing more on old, analogue sounds. The band garnered a lot of positive reactions with their strong DIY approach and a (pseudo) documentary about Scotsman Stuart Conroy. Leading magazine Humo on Stuart Conroy:

“The album effortlessly explores musical time lines, with melancholy as its main source of fuel. We hear faint echoes of Air, Boards Of Canada and Bon Iver... ‘Main Theme’ and ‘Koudijs’ hark back to very early ambient. In swan song ‘The Morning Light’ nostalgia reigns supreme. Had Conroy really existed, his songs couldn’t have been preserved in a more beautiful way.” **** .

Belgian TV Chef Jeroen Meus also seemed to be a big fan of the The Me in You and asked them write a new opening tune for his show Dagelijkse Kost (season 2019-2020), a wonderful opportunity for the band to once more unleash their inner Teenage Fanclub and Big Star. The product of this collaboration was 'Out of the Blue', a pure pop song that again became a radio hit at the end of 2019.

And then came annus horribilis 2020. Public life came to a halt, the entire country went into lockdown several times and the ‘4 person bubble’ became the norm. The Me in You rolled up their sleeves and entered the studio as soon as it was possible (and allowed) – together with their faithful producer Gaëtan Vandewoude from Isbells – to record a fourth album. Having fun playing music without any compromises and finding new musical roots are still key. Noises from everyday life, silence and the typical sounds that accompany specific places and memories are what shape the new songs.

The album 'How Does It Feel to Be Wrong All the Time' was released in spring 2022 and hailed by fans and press as a new highlight in their carreer, an atmospheric trip with references to Pink Floyd, Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel or Radiohead. Accompanying release-shows confirmed their status as amazing liveband.

In 2020 bestond The Me in You tien jaar.

In zwanenzang ‘The Morning Light’ piekt de weemoed.
